Tony Scott remakes 70s hostage drama ‘Pelham’ with Denzel and Travolta

During almost 30 years as a director, Tony Scott has worked with more than his share of movie juggernauts, like Tom Cruise (“Top Gun”) and Brad Pitt (“Spy Game”) and Dennis Hopper (“True Romance”).

More than a year ago, down on the tracks inside a dark, disorienting stretch of subway tunnel in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, he had his first face-to-face meeting with one of the stars of his next film, “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.” It weighed 400 tons. As it rolled by only a few feet from his face, towering through the tunnel, siphoning power from the perilously close 800-volt third rail, it made the kind of apocalyptic roar that even the most talented sound engineer would have trouble duplicating.
