Robert Redford directs new Lincoln movie on assassination plot

In his new film period movie 'The Conspirator', director Robert Redford digs into a rarely ventured corner of one of the most famous moments in American history - the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.

Redford dispenses with the shooting at Ford's Theater in Washington, often a subject of cinema. Instead Redford builds a story around the 1865 assassination of U.S. President - where a complex plot unfolded that resulted in seven men and one woman arrested and charged with conspiring to kill the president, vice president and secretary of state.

The movie stars Robin Wright as Mary Surrat and also James McAvoy as a lawyer.
