Oscar nominations – History of how they work

Screenwriter John August is best know for writing the screenplays of 'Go', 'Charlie's Angels' and 'Big Fish'. But he also runs a blog with his own namesake where he breaks down the movie industry from a screenwriting perspective. In his latest blog post, he breaks down how Oscar nominations work.

This is my first year as an Academy member, and my first year voting for awards. As a member of the Writers branch, I’ll be casting ballots for Original Screenplay, Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture.

Since it’s all new to me, I thought I’d walk readers through the process.
