Sony delays production of follow-up to ‘The Da Vinci Code’

On Friday, Sony Corp.’s Sony Pictures Entertainment said “Angels & Demons,” its big-budget follow-up to last year’s “The Da Vinci Code,” will be delayed because the script isn’t ready.
“With the strike nearing its third week, Columbia Pictures has postponed production of Angels & Demons. While the filmmakers and the studio feel the screenplay is very strong, we do not believe it is the fully-realized production draft required of this ambitious project,” the studio said in a statement. Columbia Pictures is a unit of Sony.
The movie’s original release date of December 2008 has been tentatively rescheduled for May 15, 2009.
The films are adapted from the bestselling series of novels by author Dan Brown. Striking screenwriters are prohibited by union rules from working on their submitted work during the strike. In this case, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman can’t work on the script until the writers go back to work.
