Hollywood studios reboot franchise movies

When plans for a fourth Spider-Man movie with Tobey Maguire collapsed in January, Sony sought to find a new way of keeping the series of super-heroes alive after three films released in 2002-2007 increased to a $2.5 billion bounty worldwide. The solution was to start fresh.

Like many others in Hollywood that revive a franchise film set, Sony has decided to 'reboot'. First used in computer jargon, rebooting is, with 3D, the latest craze in Hollywood. A successor to continuing an original story, a prequel tells what happened earlier and a remake even describes the events, a reboot takes a franchise to its origin and proceeding with a second shot - and votes.
