Gods, monsters revisited in ‘Clash of the Titans’ movie

Clash of the Titans fans have been asking the movie gods for a glossy remake.

Now it's time to get Kraken.

The new version of a very, very old tale, inspired by ancient Greek myths, opens today in 3-D amid heavy anticipation, though the original 1981 movie, with creatures designed by legendary stop-motion animator Ray Harryhausen, still has its charms and legions of admirers.

Campy, comical and colorful, the original featured Harry Hamlin (later of L.A. Law) as the demigod Perseus, battling a sea monster to win the love of the princess Andromeda.

Meanwhile, angry and unsympathetic gods (Laurence Olivier,Maggie Smith, Ursula Andress) meddled in the affairs of humans.

The new version places Avatar's Sam Worthington in the hero role, while Liam Neeson, Danny Huston and Ralph Fiennes rain down havoc from Mount Olympus.
