'Glee' star Cory Monteith describes audition process, work as Walmart greeter on 'Ellen' -Canadian actor, Cory Monteith, described how he got the part of Finn Hudson on Glee on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday.  Mr. Monteith appeared on the show to promote Fox's hit musical dramedy that airs on Tuesday nights after American Idol.

When Ms. DeGeneres asked him what he was doing before Glee, he said he had one job as a greeter at Walmart.  He played drums, and his agent told him to make a video playing drums on everyday objects, like what she had in her office.  The video landed him another call.

For the next round, he would have to sing.  He said he had never sung before and went out and bought a Billy Joel CD.  He decided to sing "Honesty" for his audition.

He said he left the audition about 4:00 p.m. and received a call about 4:35 p.m. that he had the part.

When Ms. DeGeneres asked if he was dating, he said he didn't have time.  She showed a picture of him with singer, Taylor Swift, and he said that the picture was cute, but they were friends.

Ms. DeGeneres gave Mr. Monteith a large set of "Ellen" drumsticks that she asked him to use on the show sometime
