Emeril Lagasse goes behind the scenes at NYC restaurants for Cooking Channel show, ‘The Originals’

Emeril Lagasse has cooked in a lot of restaurants.

So when he exclaimed, "I've never seen a kitchen with eight broilers!" upon entering Peter Luger Steakhouse in Williamsburg, the Cooking Channel cameras made sure to catch the moment.

Peter Luger is just one stop on Lagasse's tour around the country, where he'll be visiting restaurants as a part of his TV show "The Originals." Premiering on Thursday, the show focuses on the historical eateries that have helped make America a culinary melting pot.

"It's exciting for me, because even though I have restaurants of my own" - 12, to be exact - "a lot of my shows are done in studios," says Lagasse, who has hosted over 2,000 shows on the Food Network and is the food correspondent for ABC's "Good Morning America."
