Shooting has already started for the The Dark Knight, the follow-up to Batman Begins. Shooting has occurred both in London and over several days in Chicago in late April where a small fire broke out during film in an old post office on the loop area. The production will return to Chicago in June to film for several months under the cover name of Rory’s First Kiss. The filming in Chicago is expected to bring $30 million in revenue for the city.
Meanwhile, more names have joined the cast of The Dark Knight, which is set to be released in summer of 2008. Eric Roberts (enjoying a career resurgence on NBC’s Heroes) has joined the cast to play mafia boss Salvatore Maroni along with Nestor Carbonell, who plays one of the Others on ABC’s Lost. The cast already includes Maggie Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger (playing The Joker) as well as returnees Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman.
In this interview with Movies Online, Christian Bale doles out some bits of info on The Dark Knight and its filming.
