Clint Eastwood pushes 80 with new supernatural thriller ‘Hereafter’

With a career that’s spanned movies as diverse as “Dirty Harry” and “Million Dollar Baby,” “Unforgiven” and “The Bridges of Madison County,” “A Fistful of Dollars” and “Invictus,” there isn’t much Clint Eastwood hasn’t done.

But it took a phone call from Steven Spielberg to convince the 80-year-old actor/director that he needed to try his hand at “Hereafter,” his first supernatural thriller.

“Steven called me one day and said, ‘I have a script I want to send over to you.’ I read it and liked it. So I just called him back and said, ‘I’ll do it.’ I didn’t realize that I was last on the list,” Eastwood says with a laugh.

Eastwood might not be the first choice to helm an eerie, chill-inducing meditation on mortality, but if the early reviews are any indication, “Hereafter” might enjoy a long life at the box office.
