CASTING COUCH

  • "Milk," one of two long-gestating biopics about slain gay rights leader Harvey Milk, will begin principal photography in January on location in San Francisco. Sean Penn will star as the title role in Gus Van Sant's feature for Groundswell Prods. and producers Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen of the Jinks/Cohen Co. Bruna Papandrea of Groundswell, William Horberg and "Milk" screenwriter Dustin Lance Black have come aboard as executive producers. Groundswell CEO Michael London also will serve in a producing capacity on the film.
  • Jennifer Garner is in negotiations to star opposite Ricky Gervais in the comedy "This Side of the Truth." The film, to be co-written and co-directed by Gervais with Matt Robinson, is set in a world where lying doesn't exist. Gervais plays an ordinary Joe who learns how to lie and uses his skills to win over a beautiful woman (Garner) who is way out of his league.
  • "Knocked Up" star Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks and Jason Mewes have signed on to star in writer-director Kevin Smith's raunchy new comedy "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" for the Weinstein Co. and Dimension Films. Producer Scott Mosier's feature casts Rogen and Banks in the title roles, childhood friends who ask their buddies to make a porno to get them out of debt. Soon everyone begins having sex with everyone, leading the previously platonic Zack and Miri to re-evaluate their chaste relationship. Longtime Smith ensemble player Mewes ("Dogma") plays a supporting role.
  • Josh Zuckerman and Amanda Crew will star and James Marsden is in talks to appear in Sean Anders' raucous teen comedy "Sex Drive" for Summit Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment. Zuckerman ("Feast") will play Ian, an unlucky in love teen who meets a girl on the Internet who sends him the message "U Drive All the Way Here 4 Me ... I'll Go All the Way With U." Ian convinces his friends (including Crew) to join him on a road trip from Chicago to Knoxville to lose his virginity. Marsden would play his brother.
