Ben McKenzie understands why viewers recognize him.
The Austin, Texas, native, best known as brooding bad boy Ryan Atwood on “The O.C,” plays rookie Los Angeles cop Ben Sherman on the new NBC drama “Southland,” premiering Thursday at 10 p.m. on WHDH (Ch. 7).
During the pilot, Sherman’s training officer mocks him by calling him “90210” and “Tori Spelling.”
