Abigail Breslin’s American Girl success story

Hello, American Girl doll franchise. Ah, what? For those outside the U. S., here’s the story of a growth industry about to get bigger with assistance from actress Abigail Breslin. Here’s the scoop.

Pleasant Company, a subsidiary of Mattel, first produced dolls, then books, and magazines for young girls and teenagers in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Boutiques and bistros followed at various locations across the nation as well as some spin-off products. The basis of the idea is that each doll exists during a pivotal time in U. S. history so besides the cuddle factor there are lessons to be learned.

Anyway, producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas  saw the movie and TV potential a few years ago and got together with producing partners Julia Roberts and Lisa Gallin. All realized there was money to be made on the big and small screen.
